This position supports an enviromental laboratory in Edison, NJ.
Responsible for planning, organizing and conducting scientific projects or phases of projects involving design and development of new or improved product and/or processes. Defines and conducts moderately complex scientific measurements and experiments. Records and evaluates data. Develops models describing technical phenomena; evaluates available analytical models for application to specific areas of analyses. Performs moderately complex analysis and trouble-shooting. Responsible for the setup, assembly, use, maintenance, and calibration of equipment (specifically mass spectrometer) and processes. Interacts with sponsor staff responsible for monitoring projects. Reviews progress and defines project priorities, schedules and objectives. Develops and maintains frequent contacts with customers.
Assists in identifying opportunities for new program initiatives and follow-on tasking for current projects and participates in proposal efforts. Prepares and assists others in the development of status reports, letters, technical memoranda, contact reports, technical analyses or other outputs needed. Prepares and provides formal briefings to staff and customers and participates in technical discussions at project review sessions and in negotiations with the customer.
Operate and maintain equipment in support of general operations. In addition, track/manage equipment on supplied Tracking System. Perform state of the art multi-media sampling which may include preparation and shipment of samples. Prepare environmental assessments including review of available historical reference information, photographs, electronic information, news archives, etc. Provide statistical analysis in support of field projects, reports, and technical assessments.
Provide technical drafting support in association with preparation of field site plans, related technical and engineering computer-aided design drawings/mappings (GIS/ACAD) and geographical system compilation, utilizing approved standard software. Perform technical data management to support field activities, access technical information, and perform technical data management tasks. Prepare and deliver technical papers and posters. Present technical papers related to site-related work assignments.
Maintain equipment following established SOPs, manufacturer's recommendations or consensus standards. Participates in analytical/field activities.
