    Position Summary

    Tle Lead Inorganic Chemist supervises analytical chemists and laboratory operations. Position is based in Ft. Meade, MD.

    Responsibilities:

    • Performs ICP-AES and/or ICP/MS and/or AA laboratory analysis and data validation as required to maintain laboratory throughput. Evaluates operations and makes recommendations to improve operations.
    • Holds planning & strategy meetings. Suggests modifications to existing protocols & standing operating procedures, equipment, processes or techniques.
    • Participates in evaluation process to include set up, operation and monitoring of equipment and apparatus and more complex experimental procedures involving novel samples.
    • Provides technical guidance, instruction & oversight.
    • Assists with lab maintenance.
    • Schedules experiments
    • Summarizes & records data in official notebooks
    • Orders supplies and suggests new equipment
    • Maintains a safe working environment. 

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    • Requires a bachelor's chemistry degree and 4-6 years environmental laboratory experience
    • Familiar with a variety of analytical chemistry concepts, practices, and procedures including EPA SW­846 methods and EPA Air Methods.
    • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
    • direct experience managing and supervising large projects of a similar nature, and knowledge of NELAC Institute standards.
    • Must be US Citizen; no sponsorship available.
    • Excellent verbal, oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
    • Ability to be flexible, multi-task, prioritize, and manage multiple activities simultaneously in a fast-paced, changing environment
    • Strong team player with the ability to both collaborate and to take initiative and work well independently
    • Superior attention to detail and the ability to meet stringent deadlines
