    Intern Program Overview

    Serco’s Training and Experience Program (STEP) is designed to provide college students an internship opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on work experience in a professional environment. STEP emphasizes developing the next generation’s workforce. Our goal is to build a roadmap that leads you to a long, rewarding and challenging career with Serco. We will work with you to determine your desired career path and the correct steps to get you to your goals.

    Outside of gaining hands-on experience, you will attend training sessions taught by skilled leaders in our company. These training sessions range from finance, personality in the workplace, presentation skills, resume building, and more. In addition, Serco emphasizes being environmentally friendly and making a positive difference in the community. We challenge our interns to develop and execute on at least one group initiative that will benefit the office and/or local community. Projects in the past have included a park cleanup and a recycling drive.

    This internship spans over 12 weeks—11 weeks worked with 1 week off for Fourth of July and half days on Fridays. You will work with your mentor to identify the best times for you to come in and leave work. You will work no more than an average of 36 hours a week.


    Job Description

    Serco currently supports the IT development for the CMS (Center for Medicaid & Medicare) contract which is responsible for processing eligibility applications for citizens to receive healthcare under the Affordable Care Act. IT serves a large responsibility for contract execution to include the maintenance of existing applications/systems and new development.

    As the CMS IT Intern, you will assist with supporting program management activities around creating project workbooks, CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) documentation, submitting RFC (Request for Change), improving on process maps and process templates, conducting internal audits and ensuring SDLC WIKI (Software Development Lifecycle) site is up to date. It is a great opportunity to get involved in end to end software development life cycle initiatives which is critical to Serco’s success in IT driven projects. This position is especially unique because you will be directly supporting Serco’s largest contract – CMS.

    During your internship, you will work closely with the program managers to assist in documentation. In addition, you will shadow IT program managers and work with our internal CMMI Audit team to seek improvements.


    Roles and Responsibilities


    • Supporting Project Managemnet Activities
    • Assist with CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) Documentation
    • Assist with CMMI audit related activities
    • Submitting RFC(Request for Change), ORR (Operational Readiness Review) and other paper work
    • Shadow IT PMs (Project Managers) to understand IT processes



    • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or 4-year degree at an accredited university, and/or projected Spring 2020 college or university graduate
    • Pursuing a degree in computer science, engineering, business or related technical fields of study
    • Ideal candidates will be rising juniors, seniors or Spring 2020 graduates
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively on teams
