Under general supervision, prepares moderately complex sketches, drawings and models on design projects. Works independently on the development of original
designs or adaptations requiring specialized experience. Creating 3D models for developmental Navy shipboard combat system equipment and components.
Developing drawings for installation of Navy Shipboard combat systems.
Draws structural, mechanical, or electrical features of related structures and equipment.
Reviews literature, standards and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
Prepares working plans and detailed drawings from sketches and notes received from Engineers or Senior Designers.
Calculates and lays out dimensions, angles, curvature of parts, materials to be used, and relationship of various parts to the entire structure.
Creates preliminary and/or final drawings and models using standard drafting techniques using computer assisted design.
Confers with design originator, appropriate engineering and other personnel in finalizing design concepts.
May review completion and implementation of systems additions and/or enhancements and recommends corrections in technical application and analysis to management.
May supervise other Designers on some phase of design.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
High school degree and 1 to 3 years related experience.
Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Related experience interpreting design requirements and preparing design alternatives.
An active security clearance is required for this position. The candidate must either have an active secret clearance or be willing to sign a letter of intent while achieving a secret clearance.
Strong Experience/training in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) with specific experience using AutoCAD.
Experience/training developing 3D models. Shipboard operations/shipboard design/Navy experience is a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required
