The Motorist Assist Patrol (MAP) Operator provides safe, quick clearance of incidents that affect traffic, including vehicle accidents and disabled vehicles. The primary purpose of the MAP is to ensure State Highways are free of obstructions and safe for the traveling public. To ensure safety, MAP Operators wear highly visible, reflective uniforms and drive specially marked vehicles when assisting motorists and emergency first responders.
Upon successful completion of classroom and field training, the MAP Operator will be certified as a first responder to operate a fully equipped Motorist Assistance Vehicle. CPR / First Aid training is provided to enable the MAP Operator to provide basic first aid until emergency services arrive when necessary.
Specific duties include but not limited to:
-Monitor State Highways with regard to vehicle crashes, disabled/abandoned vehicles, debris, and lane-closing events, traffic signal malfunctions, damage to state equipment on state roadways, as well as general incident/congestion scenarios.
-Provides roadside assistance to stranded motorists (including changing tires, giving battery jumps, providing fuel, removing debris from the travel lanes, etc.)
-Work closely with Police and other first responders at highway incidents.
-Provide incident response, on-scene traffic control and limited first aid as needed
-Provide Traffic Incident Management Services
-Accepts personal responsibility of all work output
-Adheres to all MAP SOP guidelines.
-Using a two-way radio and/or smart phone, Communicate and Coordinate with the Traffic Management Center staff with regard MAP work activities.
-While providing emergency roadside service to motorist, Operators will observe safety required procedures to avoid injury and accidents at all times.
-MAP Operators are subject to working in all types of weather, 24/7/365, holidays, weekends, required overtime, and call outs due to identified emergencies.
