Position Description

Serco, Inc. is seeking empowering, experienced leaders to support our team of dynamic counseling professionals delivering services to our Service members and their Families worldwide.

The Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) Program was established to expand access to confidential counseling and reduce the barriers and stigma often associated with seeking counseling support. The stresses of Military life are complex, requiring a wide range of problem solving skills in areas such as: single parenting; child care; spousal employment; fluctuating Family income; frequent relocations; isolation from other extended Family members; child education; and children coping with the absence of a parent. The DoD and Serco recognizes these difficulties and is committed to providing the necessary in person counseling support to all Active and Reserve Service members and their Families.

Our Area Supervisors will provide oversight of multiple Military and Family Life Counselors geographically dispersed within a MFLC Region located either within CONUS or OCONUS.


Job duties includes the following:


Management and Oversight:

  • Supervise and guide geographically dispersed team of area supervisors/team leads
  • Support ongoing regional area hiring process, delegate work assignments, evaluate performance, monitor time and attendance, set performance objectives, and address employee issues
  • Manage communications with base, installation, embedded units and community points of contact including inquires, site visits, and program updates
  • Provide briefings to senior military leadership, high level executives or political officials, and customer support
  • Ensure regional area staff meets or exceed targets for providing quality care and psychoeducation services to Service members and Families
  • Oversee the daily regional area operations of MFLC Program to include all required communication, training and suspense actions
  • Work as a member of a highly effective leadership team and to integrate with key government personnel and corporate colleagues
  • Maintain regular interaction and support to Government Representative (COR/KO), Functional Representative/COR-RA, GTMs and Serco program and corporate leadership
  • Execute contract requirements, monitor assigned budget, submit reporting requirements, and manage deliverables
  • Lead regional QA/QC efforts to ensure program compliance and/or performance

Training and Certification:

  • Provide certification and credentialing support within assigned regional area
  • Lead curriculum development in response to new presentation requests from military leadership
  • Develop and implement approved training and education programs and materials
  • Coordinate and execute ongoing regional new hire and professional development trainings (virtual and in person)
  • Support annual training activities, as needed, to ensure maximum participation of MFLC staff

Outreach and Awareness:

  •  Provide outreach services and support to MFLC regional area locations and sites
  • Assist with building coalitions and connecting with federal, state, and local resources and non-profit organizations within assigned region area
  • Consult with government technical monitors, military commands, and installation services leadership

Travel: Travel is required to accomplish mission goals to include evenings and weekends with the ability to use all modes of transportation. This position requires access to US Government facilities and systems. US Citizenship, a valid driver’s license, auto insurance and reliable transportation to travel to assigned locations and nearby facilities is required.

Work Conditions: Flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed in order to properly serve and assist clients. Job assignments may require working at client site and/or alternative sites where working conditions may vary.


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a Mental Health related field such as Social Work, Psychology, Marriage/Family Therapy, or Counseling
  • A valid unrestricted and/or provisional counseling license/certification from a State, the District of Columbia, a U.S. Commonwealth, or a U.S. Territory that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner in their respective fields
  • Three to five years of management experience supporting 20-30 plus field staff members; military family programs management experience preferred
  • MFLC and/or counselor supervision experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with military family programs and/or advocacy services, military or civilian social service agencies, and/or are a military family member/Veteran with full understanding of the military lifestyle
  • Experience working knowledge of military, state, federal, and local resources
  • Understanding, sensitivity, and empathy for Service members and their Families
  • Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with military and civilian medical, social service, law enforcement, and legal personnel on behalf of Service members and their Families.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, and must speak fluent English
