Position Description

Serco Canada. is looking to fill a full-time Alarms & Controls Technician I position at our Goose Bay, NL location.


Job Duties:

  • Read and interpret specifications, scopes, sketches or drawings to determine the layout of fire systems.
  • Document all information concerning the work performed, labour and materials used to complete assigned work.
  • Perform/assist with the installation, repair and maintenance of fire systems and associated electrical equipment.
  • When required, provide on-call support in order to meet service delivery objectives.
  • Perform PM Inspections, corrective maintenance, repairs on alarm and control systems, and associated equipment ensuring that fire alarm systems will function properly under adverse weather conditions and during emergency situations and/or power fluctuations.
  • Install, maintain, investigate and repair faults/malfunctions in HVAC and air conditioning electronic controls.
  • Install, maintain, investigate and repair faults/malfunctions related to the steam metering and sectionalizing switch electronic system components.
  • Inspect/troubleshoot fire systems and all associated equipment for faults and repair discrepancies.
  • Certify all fire systems and associated equipment as operational.
  • Must have a demonstrated working knowledge of fire systems and related electrical control systems.
  • Assist Alarms and Controls Technician Level II with the performance of duties.
  • Preparation of cost estimates for clients.
  • May be required to work in remote and isolated sites.
  • May be required to train apprentices up to Journeyperson standard and endorse appropriate documentation.
  • Ensure all assigned deliverables and other reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • Visibly demonstrate Serco Values and work practices while completing duties.
  • Other related duties relevant to this position as may be required.

**Hourly pay rate is CAD $43.80**

**This position is located in Goose Bay and not a Fly In-Fly Out position.**




  • Canadian Fire Alarm Association Registered Technician is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Level II clearance.
  • At least three years’ experience in an Industrial Alarm System/Control/Instrumentation environment.
  • Electrical/Electronic and/or Instrumentation Technology Certificate.
  • Experience working on Fire Alarm Systems, Intrusion Alarm, CCTV systems and other systems would be an asset.
  • Previous experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of fire systems and associated electrical equipment is required.
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a Ramp Defensive Driving Course (DND/RDDC) certification to operate vehicles on the airfield is required.
  • Possession of a valid NL Class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Level II security clearance is required.
