As the Royal Canadian Air Forces’ prime service provider at 5 Wing Goose Bay, Labrador, our team delivers comprehensive air operations, emergency services, logistics and engineering expertise to the Department of National Defence. We work on behalf of DND’s “no fail” mission at Goose Bay: supporting NORAD operations for the projection of air power on the north and northeast coasts of Canada, while supporting military training for the Canadian Armed Forces, Allies and NORAD. 5 Wing Goose Bay provides effective training facilities, adaptable infrastructures, and a unique, austere and challenging training location.   Currently, Serco Canada has over 1,200 employees across four provinces, including a strong and growing Indigenous workforce.

You will be part of a team that works closely with the military customer and other Serco teams to deliver quality and efficient services to DND. In this role, you will:

  • Advise Management of relevant legislative or other changes relating to health and safety.
  • Assist all site personnel in implementing the Serco Occupational Health and Safety Program.
  • Assess all workplace OHS compliance with applicable regulations, policies and procedures, and provide assistance to ensure requirements are met.
  • Develop and facilitate a training program for OHS compliance, provide briefings and training as required to ensure compliance
  • Maintain all health and safety records in accordance with the applicable health and safety regulations and quality systems.
  • Liaise with workplace Health and Safety Committees, customer representatives and provincial/federal labour programs.
  • Conduct reviews of all new projects for occupational health and safety compliance.
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations and take the lead in implementing remedial actions.
  • Prepare OHS regulatory and other reports as required.


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An Occupational Health and Safety Diploma from a recognized college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a health and safety position.
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial OHS legislation.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 NL driver’s license will be required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Level II security clearance.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening test.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain and maintain, a Ramp Defensive Driving Course (DND/RDDC) certification to operate vehicles on the airfield.
  • Competent in use of standard Microsoft applications – MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Certified as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional.
  • Experience working in an engineering environment.
  • Working knowledge, training and experience in fall protection, confined space, first aid, ergonomics, hazard assessments, safety audits, accident investigations, respiratory protection, hearing protection, power line hazards, trenching and excavation, risk management, asbestos and mould management, WHMIS.
