Serco supports the Navy as prime for their Amphibious Warfare program. The Boston Planning Yard team supports the Landing Craft Division in the maintenance of the Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC), the configuration and engineering management of the new Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1700, and the planning of maintenance of the new Ship to Shore Connector (SSC). In this role, you will support the Electrical Engineering team in the drafting, editing, and verification of technical manuals craft design plans.

 

You will be part of a 4-person Electrical Engineering team that works closely with the customer in delivering quality products and services to the fleet.

 

In this role you will: 

  • Be responsible for providing technical support for all aspects of requirements development, concept development, engineering, integration and test, and performance analysis as tasked by the Lead Electrical Engineer in support of the Landing Craft Planning Yard efforts in Boston.
  • Support senior technical personnel and project managers within the organization in various technical activities related to system and technical product development for life cycle sustainment of LCAC, SSC and LCU 1700.
  • Develop change records for craft improvements and safety issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and documentation for craft changes, including installation drawings, technical manual (TM) updates, and ATPs
  • Provide technical and design support on emergent issues in the Fleet and during all availabilities.
  • Respond to emergent Fleet Life Cycle support and engineering issues.
  • Receive technical guidance and training from the more experienced technical staff and provide training to junior team members where required.
  • Perform basic engineering work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of higher-level engineers in the development of system and technical products. Typically employs pre-established guidelines and instructions, and limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish task objectives.
  • Duties include the collection of information and data, performance of various tests, and engineering computations, measurements, and analyses.
  • Have some independent interaction with customers and provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables under guidance of more senior technical personnel. 
  • Comply with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least 1 year of relevant work experience. Degree must be in engineering. In lieu of a bachelor’s you will have an Associate’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience, or a High School diploma plus 5 years of relevant experience.
  • You be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD clearance upon employment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and knowledge of the ShipConstructor program is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques within a specific area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software that are standard to electrical engineering.
  • Effective organization level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Prior experience working in engineering in or for the Navy or in the shipbuilding industry, while not required is desired.
