Responsible for collecting, receiving, handling, transporting, processing, packaging and preparing hazardous material or waste for storage and shipment.
Operating manual and power lifting devices, materials handling equipment, and motor vehicles to pick up or move materials.
Required to maintain a valid operator's license to perform these duties.
Working in a warehouse setting and is involved in handling hazardous materials that may be flammable, caustic, toxic and/or explosive. Receives, stows, inventories, selects, and delivers HM to designated customers.
Performing safety and operational checks on inventory of HM. Checking HM storage facilities and lockers to ensure proper storage, segregation and physical separation of incompatible material.
Ensuring that HM designated for disposal that is staged for pick-up has proper identification labels and the labels to include origin, waste information, dates, categories, and types of waste.
Using a HM Tracking System and other Government data systems to access databases for handling, processing, storing, and shipping requirements, and enters extensive information to update the database.
Inspecting and making initial identification and assessment of standard HM/HW to determine their nature (e.g., flammability, toxicity), and storage characteristics (e.g., repercussions of long term storage).
Visually examining HM containers in storage and during transport for leakage and other indications of deterioration.
Participating in the removal and clean-up of hazardous material spills. Re-packs, consolidates, and/or blends spilled wastes into proper containers for pick-up.
