Our mission is to provide our nation’s sailors with access to cutting edge technology by providing research and development (R&D), prototype integration, and testing and evaluation (T&E) services in maritime environments to include littoral (coastal and riverine) regions along with offshore testing in areas such as the Gulf of Mexico.


Our management staff includes Ephraim McGhee, Sr. Program Manager/Site Lead with over 13 years of DoD contracting/oil and gas industry experience and Matthew Hendrix, Operational  Manager (US Army Ret.) with over 23 years of military and industry experience. Serco Inc. is seeking a highly motivated individual with a technical maritime background and 5-7 years’ experience in Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) operations to join our Maritime Engineering, Technology and Sustainment (METS) team providing primary support to Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) along secondary support to commands such as Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) in San Diego, CA. This position supports a broad portfolio of Autonomous Maritime System (AMS) programs in the Panama City, FL/NSWC PCD geographic region onboard a fast growing local team.

This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain and/or maintain your active clearance.

The Field Service Engineer provides support in operating UUVs and related autonomous systems. Troubleshoots problems within project/program, providing analysis and solution recommendations. Expertise and work efforts are focused on the analysis of customer's business goals, objectives, needs and the general business environment to solve technical problems. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Reports to a Program Manager or head of a unit/department under limited supervision. This position will support onsite Serco and NSWC PCD customer facilities in Panama City, FL along with some remote support.


In this role, you will:

  • Perform UUV field operations, scheduled and corrective maintenance, integration, testing, field installation, and troubleshooting of underwater autonomous vehicles along with ancillary systems and support modes.
  • Operate UUVs such as REMUS 100 and 600 vehicles in support of Navy mission requirements.
  • Instruct entry and junior level UUV operators on best practices, techniques, and general maintenance.
  • Conduct mechanical and electrical maintenance of all undersea systems and supporting equipment.
  • Maintain systems in the highest state of readiness to meet US Government requirements.
  • Be able to document maintenance and operational activities in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Work within technical support teams to meet field mission requirements and resolve technical issues.
  • Formulate methods and processes which will increase operational effectiveness, safety, efficiency, and readiness.
  • Perform platform and payload upgrades as requested by the Govt. customer.
  • Operate and perform rigging activities onboard Naval Small Craft such as Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB); may include holding a USCG Captain’s license.


To be successfull in the role, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline and 5-7 years’ directly related experience in AUV systems, including experience troubleshooting to the component level. (Equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, or work/military experience may be considered).
  • A current valid U.S. passport is required.
  • A current SECRET clearance is required.
  • Minimum 25% travel CONUS/OCONUS is required
  • Experience in maritime operations to include vessels, diving, and unmanned underwater vehicles.
  • Ability to problem solve during high stress environments such as field testing in austere conditions.
  • Logistics experience in military and maritime maneuvers is preferred.
  • Able to interpret mechanical and hydraulic schematics and drawings.
  • Proficient in the use of common hand and power-driven tools.
  • Fork-lift, overhead crane, and rigging experience.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision under a variety of conditions.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of all types of autonomous maritime systems (USVs/ROVs/AUVs) is preferred.
