The (Shipconstructor) Marine Designer will be part of a 175 to 200 -member team that works closely with our customers and other Serco teams to deliver quality ship and ship system designs.


In this role, you will:

  • Draw/Designs structural, mechanical, or electrical features of related structures and equipment utilizing ShipConstructor, Inventor and/or AutoCad
  • Review literature, standards, requirements, specifications and current practices relevant to the design of assigned projects.
  • Prepare sketches or complete detail and layout drawings utilizing ShipConstructor, Inventor and/or AutoCad Software from verbal or written instructions on the most complex projects. 
  • Calculate and lays out dimensions, angles, curvature of parts, materials to be used, and relationship of various parts to the entire structure.
  • Identify interfaces and avoid interferences related to integrated ship and ship system designs (lay outs).
  • Create preliminary and/or final drawings and 3-D models using standard drafting techniques using computer assisted design utilizing ShipConstructor, Inventor and/or AutoCad Software.
  • Confer with design originator, appropriate engineering an/ord other personnel in finalizing design concepts.
  • May review completion and implementation of systems additions and/or enhancements and recommends corrections in technical application and analysis to management.
  • May supervise other Designers or Drafters on some phase of design.
  • Prepare complex sketches, drawings and 3-D models for ships and ship systems in all  engineering/marine engineering disciplines (e.g., fluids, HVAC, Electrical, Structure, Etc.) on our design projects utilizing ShipConstructor, Inventor and/or AutoCad Software.
  • Work independently on the development of original designs or adaptations requiring very specialized marine design experience.
  • Plan, conduct and direct design projects or major phases of significant design projects, working with or taking direction from the MEO technical engineering staff.


This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain/maintain/transfer your Secret clearance.


The ideal (ShipConstructor) Marine Designer Will:

  • Possess an Associate's Degree in a related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience and 5 to 7 years related experience.
    • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience.
    • Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by Market Survey.
  • Possess demonstrated experience with multi-tasking across programs in a matrix organization; dynamically interacting with customers, equipment manufacturers and the Serco MEO Team.
  • Have related experience interpreting design requirements and preparing design alternatives with minimal engineering supervision.
  • Intermediate/Advanced level in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and/or traditional drafting methods, specifically ShipConstructor, Inventor and/or AutoCad Software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
