The (Shipconstructor) Marine Designer will be part of a 175 to 200 -member team that works closely with our customers and other Serco teams to deliver quality ship and ship system designs

 

Under immediate supervision, carries out design assignments of a routine nature with limited latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Prepares sketches or completes detail and layout drawings utilizing ShipConstructor Software from verbal or written instructions on product or plant equipment. Participates in the development of original designs or adaptations requiring specialized experience.

 

In this role, the Jr. Designer will:

  • Prepares design drawings in ShipConstructor Software to assist in developing ideas generated by engineers.
  • Draws structural, mechanical, or electrical features of related structures and equipment utilizing ShipConstructor Software
  • Reviews literature, standards and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
  • Prepares working plans and detailed drawings from sketches and notes received from Engineers and/or other Designers utilizing ShipConstructor Software.
  • Calculates and lays out dimensions, angles, curvature of parts, materials to be used, and relationship of various parts to the entire structure.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

This position may require the ability to obtain, maintain, or transfer a DoD Issued Secret clearance.

 

The Jr. Designer Will:

  • Possess an Associates degree and 0 to 2 years related experience.
    • Degree may be waived for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and/or traditional drafting methods, specifically ShipConstructor, Inventor and/or AutoCad Software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
