MTST-Technical Instructor – Sonar - Manassas, VA

 

If you seek a high profile and challenging position supporting US Navy Submarine Acoustics Systems program offices, Serco North America is seeking motivated individuals to join our Maritime Engineering, Technology, and Sustainment Business Unit located near the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC.   This position is predominately supported out of our Manassas, VA location.

 

The Technical Instructor supports the Submarine Warfare Federated Tactical Systems (SWFTS) Program Office at Naval Sea Systems Command.   Bring your leadership, expertise, and collaborative skills to make an impact on the future of our Nation’s security and the safety of our sailors.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop operational training for each new build of ARCI, promulgate curriculum to all submarine force training sites, and train Navy instructors.
  • Deliver A-RCI training to submarine crews in the classroom and aboard submarines.
  • Support development of A-School and Journeyman Sonar Pipeline training at Naval Submarine School.
  • Report directly to SLC Director of Modernization Training and advise him on A-RCI training.
  • Provide training on AN/WSQ-9 to submarine crews and Navy instructors.
  • Collaborate with Undersea Warfighting Development Center on tactical doctrine.
  • Provide recommendations to sonar system developers on the scope and content of embedded Sonar training products.
  • Support ARCI sonar system development at-sea and in the factory.
  • Provide Modernization Training scheduling information to Training Logistics Element Lead.
  • Evaluate and provide technical feedback on submarine training systems at locations such as NUWC, Newport and GD-MS Fair Lakes, VA.
  • Create training curriculum using Microsoft Office products.

 

Qualifications

In this role, you will need:

  • Prior military experience as a Submarine Sonar Supervisor, or a Senior Chief, or Chief Sonar Technician (highly motivated and experienced Petty Officer First Class will be considered).
  • Be experienced at sea as an AN/BQQ-10 Sonar Supervisor.
  • To have at least five years (5) overall experience.   Incumbent should have recent experience at sea operating an AN/BQQ-10.
  • To be fluent with Undersea Warfighting Development Center (UWDC) sponsored operational guidance pertaining to sonar.
  • To be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, especially PowerPoint.
  • To be proficient in the use of Adobe Acrobat.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
  • To be able to travel (domestically and possibly internationally).
  • To be able to go to sea on submarines for a minimum of one (1) week at a time.
  • To have a current or active DoD Secret security clearance (minimally at the Secret level), or the ability to obtain and maintain this level of clearance.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Experience teaching sonar system operations and employment.
