Analyzes search requests in chemical areas such as composition of matter, pharmaceutical and agriculture formulations, cleaning compositions, organic structures, and more at the Harrisonburg, VA location. In this Patent Search Analyst role, you will:

  • Develop search methodologies specific to each search and exercises professional judgment to adapt and deliver excellent results.
  • Review and prepare search results for customers that in specified formats.
  • Coordinate with USAFCENT staff to ensure appropriate offices have visibility on proposed and approved projects.

This position is working remotely in Virginia - Candidates must be located in or around the Virginia area as you will be required to travel to Harrisonburg, VA on occastion as needed. 


To be successful in this Patent Search Analyst role, you will have:

  • A Bachelors degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, and/or 2 years of equivalent research experience.
  • At least 2 years patent searching experience relating to the pharmaceutical industry
  • Significant experience performing patent and scientific literature searches using multiple search tools and databases, including patent searching using the U.S. and international patent classification systems and forward/reverse citation analysis
  • Strong expertise in searching chemical structure databases (such as CAS Registry, Derwent World Patent Index, Marpat)
  • Expertise in searching protein and nucleic acid sequences (e.g., CAS Registry, DGENE, PCTGEN, USGENE)
  • Strong background and/or research experience, with organic chemistry, peptide, and/or protein expertise
  • Must be able to obtain and/or maintain a Public Trust Security Clearance.

Desired Attributes:

  • Knowledge of U.S. and foreign patent formats and examining procedures.
