Position Description

If you love high profile and challenging electrical engineering projects supporting several naval and commercial marine ship design and modernization programs as well as a number of exciting R&D programs - Serco has a great opportunity for you! This Sr. Electrical Engineer will collaborate with other members of our engineering team, customers, vendors and shipyard personnel at our Philadelphia, PA office.  Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact toward our military defense and safety of our sailors.

 

This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain/maintain an active DoD Secruity clearance prior to employment.

 

You will assist senior members of our controls team that works closely with the Customer and other Government interdisciplinary teams to deliver quality systems, designs and evaluates ship and test site systems.. As the Sr. Electrical Engineer you will  provide guidance to less experienced engineers, and play a role in overall design and task execution planning.  

 

You will be part of an 11-member team that works closely with the customer and other Serco teams to deliver ship design and construction program deliverables.  The team is lead by a  Sr. Program Manager with over 30 years’ experience in design and analysis of low, medium, and high voltage electrical power systems, including component selection and rating, specification development, feasibility and tradeoff studies, and specialized analyses (harmonics, fault studies, load flow studies, protective device coordination, arc flash analysis, transient simulations, dynamic response studies, and reliability studies).  

 

In this role, you will:

  • Plan, design and execution of ship design and construction program deliverables to ensure requirements are defined and met according to specifications.
  • Provide practical application of engineering science and technology.
  • Integrate diverse elements into a cohesive whole.
  • Provide DDG1000 electrical system/component design and concepts of operations.
  • Develop power system designs for mechanical, hybrid, and integrated electric propulsion ships, review and improve designs produced by shipbuilding industry. 
  • Be an acting resource for resolution of unique or complex problems.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An Active DoD U.S. Govt Issued Secret Clearance or the ability to reactivate or obtain a Secret Clearance is required before starting this position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. (Masters preferred)
  • 5-7 years’ experience providing design and engineering support for U.S. Navy shipboard machinery control system and/or electrical generation and distribution systems and equipment, including system conceptual design through detail design, ship alteration package development (design drawings and test procedures), and feasibility evaluations.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of marine craft.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to integrate diverse elements into a cohesive whole.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) and to work with others.
  • Knowledge of DDG1000 electrical system/component design and concept of operations is a plus.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Experience with design, application engineering, and/or maintenance of medium voltage switchgear and power conversion equipment, including vacuum circuit breakers, propulsion motors and drives, harmonic filters, braking resistors, transformer/rectifiers, multi-level IGBT power converters is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Model Based System Engineering, SQML, MATLAB or Simplorer modeling and simulation a plus.
