Position Description

If you desire an opportunity to help the Navy and Marine Corps, Serco has a great opportunity for you! As a Deputy Program Manager, you will lead a team that is evaluating and managing the delivery of new amphibious ships and landing craft to the fleet.


Our Amphibious Warfare Operation provides critical services to nearly all U.S. Navy amphibious ships and craft. You will work closely with Government and industry professionals as well as shipbuilders and other support personnel. In this role, you will:

  • You will lead a team of two hundred individuals (an effort of more than $35M annual revenue) helping in the areas of program management, acquisition and life cycle management, engineering and technical, test and evaluation, planning yard, information technology, and integrated logistics support.
  • Be responsible for managing efforts across six program platforms in varying stages of the acquisition process. The scope of support required encompasses all phases of the Acquisition Life Cycle/Defense Acquisition Management Framework. This ranges from Pre-Systems Acquisition (Concept and Technology Development Phase), Systems Acquisition (System Development and Demonstration Phase and Production and Deployment Phase), and Sustainment (Operations and Support Phase).
  • Provide the Navy program office with coordination of daily execution and long-term execution of processes, procedures and reporting defined within the scope of the task order statement of work.
  • Provide resolutions to conflict or discipline related issues with personnel supporting the Navy program office on the contract.
  • Coordinate projects with interdependencies between various disciplines within the contract.
  • Ensure deliverables are aligned across projects within the contract.
  • Ensure positions are filled with properly trained and fully qualified personnel to fulfill the task descriptions within the SOW to meet support roles for the Program Office.
  • Conduct cost management through continual cost control and review.
  • Have business development and budgetary responsibilities.
  • Provide expertise to customers to ensure resolution of issues.
  • Lead and direct the work of others including providing mentorship.


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any technical or managerial discipline plus 12 years of relevant experience. Military or DoD experience can be substituted for a degree if 15 or more years of specific work experience can be demonstrated in an analogous or higher-level position.
  • Experience managing support for a Navy Acquisition (ACAT I) Program is required.
  • DoD 5000.02 knowledge and experience is required.
  • Shipbuilding knowledge is required
  • A current DoD security clearance or be able to obtain an interim clearance after hire.
  • United States (U.S.) citizenship.
  • Ability to operate personal computers and have good knowledge and operational abilities with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to support activities in a shipyard or naval facility. Some work may occur within an industrial field office, outdoors and/or aboard ship while the ship is undergoing construction, alteration, activation, overhaul, repair, and/or underway trials. Walking and climbing throughout the ship, to accomplish ship checks, may be required. Exposure to high noise levels, uncomfortable temperatures, heights, or other industrial safety conditions will require use of personal protective clothing and equipment.
  • Ability to travel (less than 10%) to support activities in a shipyard or naval facility or onboard ship while underway.


Additional desired experience and skills:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of twenty (20) years of professional experience – with at least five (5) years of supervisory experience – in the Defense acquisition process and program management is preferred.
  • Amphibious warship ship and/or craft construction or ship repair work experience is ideal.
  • Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act of 1990 (DAWIA) certification is desired.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desired.
