Submarine Acquisition (SWS) Test and Evaluation Manager

Serco is seeking a highly talented individual with working experience of SSBN Strategic Weapon Systems to support systems Test and Evaluation.  This position will part of a dynamic team supporting Serco’s customer in Team Submarine, working onsite at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. 


This is an excellent opportunity for a senior SSBN missile technician or former weapons officer. Bring your technical expertise and collaboration skills to make an impact supporting our national security and the safety of our sailors. 


Serco supports Naval Sea Systems Command as a prime contractor providing programmatic, logistical, business, and financial management, and technical and engineering support to the various program offices in Team Submarine.  Our team facilitates design, testing, acquisition, delivery and support of submarine platforms and systems.


A SECRET Clearance is required to be considered for this position.  You will be part of a 40-member team that works closely with the customer and other Serco teams to deliver quality systems.  John Cottingham, , a Navy veteran with over 20 years of operational experience in submarines, leads Serco’s support of this program.  The team has been recognized by the Navy and the industry for their outstanding contributions to the contract and program.


In this role, you will:

  • Provide direct support to the APM for Test and Evaluation
  • Participate in developmental testing and red-team reviews of submarine SWS components
  • Facilitate timely decisions in the review and adjudication of all design products and written correspondence by the appropriate NAVSEA technical stakeholders, COMOPTEVFOR, Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), UK, Navy Field Activities in accordance with Ship Specifications to meet commitment completion dates
  • Interface with stakeholders to generate documentation, letters, and packages for official release
  • Track and report the status of commitments.  Attend weekly commitment and other applicable meetings
  • Coordinate with other stakeholders to ensure integration interfaces are identified and resolved
  • Other duties as assigned


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Active SECRET clearance is required to be considered
  • Eight to ten years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (experience may be evaluated to meet requirements in lieu of a degree)
  • Knowledge of SSBN SWS
  • Understanding of DOD acquisition programs requirements
  • Ability to understand and succinctly summarize, communicate, and document technical issues
  • Must be articulate in oral and written presentations; possess high organizational skills and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines
  • Must be a self-starter, possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work directly with various government and contractor representatives to complete assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner independently or with minimal supervision

 Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Two years of related technical experience working within a DoD Program Office or Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) is preferred
  • Engineering or technical degree preferred
  • Submarine design, production and/or operational experience preferred

 Occasional travel to Groton, CT, Port Canaveral, FL, and other locations
