Serco is a leading support contractor to the US Navy and as such we work directly for PMS 515, part of the Program Engineering Office’s effort to procure and deliver the finest ships for our sailors and our country.  Serco supports the US Navy in acquisition of the Navy’s newest Frigate by reviewing engineering products and monitoring every phase of the production efforts at the Shipbuilder’s Facility in Marinette, Wisconsin.


Every aspect of this position hollers experience, knowledge, and the opportunity to excel.  You will report to some of the most experienced shipbuilders around and will be able to share their knowledge and insight.  You will be part of a large contingent of Serco and Navy personnel on-site to support the ship construction effort.  You will be exposed to every aspect of shipbuilding and share in the wealth of knowledge.


As a shipyard production - piping specialist, you will be collecting a variety of data and preparing presentable information for higher levels of management up to and including the Navy’s Program Manager. 


Data includes:

  • Daily survey information
  • Tracking and collating data from multiple ships under construction.
  • Conduct meetings as needed in support of SUPSHIP and program office
  • Develop and submit weekly reports of conditions found and emergent issues

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct daily walk-throughs on modules being pre-outfitted and verify pipe installations are IAW drawings. This includes valve, fitting types, pipe hanger types, spacing and general quality assessments.
  • Conduct daily surveillance of pipe fab shop to observe spool progress and to confirm spools were IAW drawings (pipe material correctness, weld process, general spool configuration and dimensions, etc.)
  • Monitor purchasing status of any long-lead valves or other long-lead piping components that could impact production if not delivered by the in-yard need date.
  • Review piping drawings in advance of production start to identify any producibility concerns or other non-compliance issues.
  • Review all pipe flushing procedures and test procedures to provide technical comments as needed.
  • Conduct progress surveys for each piping system and provide reports to document percent complete for each system.
  • Develop and provide solutions or recommendations to conditions found on ship



To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Five to seven years of experience with shipyards and shipbuilding.
  • Experience collecting data and presentations for higher level review.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • The ability to use multiple programs (Auto-CAD forex) on a computer, access information and conduct product searches.
  • A current or active DoD Secret security clearance, or the ability to qualify for a DoD Secret security clearance via sponsorship.
  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience with a variety of software applications on a PC.
  • Mid-level and above experience in using Microsoft Office Suite Tools.
  • Experienced trade journeymen.
  • Experience in data keeping during a major ship construction program.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • A Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience working with military programs.
  • Former journeymen in at least one shipyard trade.
  • Desire to learn Microsoft Excel.
