Serco supports the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, a federal agency within the United States Department of Health and Human Services that administers the Medicare program and works in partnership with state governments to continue supporting eligibility determinations for consumers purchasing health insurance through the Federal Health Insurance Exchanges. 


The Senior Security Engineer will be on a dynamic team, supporting our CMS program. The team is located at our Colorado Springs, CO location and position is open to remote work with some possibility of travel. Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact towards your career.  Our Senior Security Engineer to play a critical role in the maintain, design, planning, implementation, manage audits, documentation, and troubleshooting of Systems and Network for a large commercial enterprise environment.


In this role you will:

  • Lead IT Operations in security workload including assist with design, run security appliance project deployments, implement, and configure security appliances and tools, document and troubleshoot system and network issues; with particular emphasis on security audits, security in design, best practice, outage response and resolution, equipment selection and configuration, and the application of new technologies to system and network deployment.


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of related experience OR 9-11 years of experience in lieu of degree. 
  • The ability to work on-call.
  • An extensive knowledge of systems and network technology theory, principles, and practices.
  • The ability to assist in project design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Prior experience in leading, organizing, and running IT Operations teams through internal and government Audits.
  • The ability to work and meet with the System Security Office team.
  • Knowledge of local and wide area network systems.
  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux systems.
  • Knowledge of client/server network protocols and Internet/Intranet applications.
  • Worked with security requirements; DISA STIGs and NIST controls.
  • Experience running encryption tools such as Thales Vormetric and Amazon Web Services (AWS) Key Management Services (KMS).
  • The ability to design, implement, and maintain proxies such as Forcepoint/Websense and ZScaler.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture.
  • Knowledge and concepts of Network and System security.
  • The ability to review Group Policy Management GPOs.
  • Basic knowledge of certificates.
  • Knowledge Firewall rules.
  • Working knowledge, design, and implementation of Endpoint security such as CrowdStrike and McAfee.
  • The knowledge to assign with security in design.
  • Knowledge of DLP concept and implementation.
  • To create, update, and peer review process and design documentation.
  • Knowledge of log lookup in SIEM platforms such as Splunk.
  • The ability to recommending and performing upgrades, patches, new applications, and equipment for the network environment following the best practices and design life cycles
  • The ability to write clear and concise documentation of systems and procedures. \Will work tickets as assigned and perform O&M tasks
  • The ability to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals.
  • The ability to plan, organize, meet schedules and timelines for assigned work.
  • Ability to travel as needed (10%). 

Additional desired skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of AWS Security Practices.

In compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this role is $96,525.00 to $160,875.00; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
