Position Description

If you are a security engineer with at least two years of experience and want to be a part of a larger collaborative team, Serco has a great opportunity for you! This Security Engineer will not only have thorough demonstrative security operations experience, but also have a sound understanding of information security principles, independent thinking, analytical skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to maintain quality service standards set by the organization.  If you also possess a fundamental knowledge of cloud technologies, then you would be our ideal candidate.

Serco has a robust information security program that includes analyzing, triaging, and handling security events; deploying and maintaining security infrastructure; troubleshooting security-related issues; provisioning accounts and access; identifying, reporting, and remediating vulnerabilities; performing incident response activities; and documenting processes, procedures, and systems. Our team works closely with other Serco teams to support these efforts.


In this role, you will:

  • Operate within a team that takes responsibility for effective analysis, triage and handling of security information and events
  • Maintain, update, patch, and enhance information security infrastructure to ensure optimal operational state
  • Demonstrate proficiency in recognizing and onboarding new data sources into a SIEM, analyzing the data for anomalies and trends, and building dashboards highlighting the key trends of the data.
  • Provision privileged accounts and fulfill access requests
  • Perform vulnerability, configuration, and compliance assessments
  • Create and maintain documentation of IT security procedures, processes, configurations, and diagrams
  • Verify that systems, networks, and infrastructure meet baseline security standards as defined by the industry
  • Coordinate efforts and manage interactions with vendors
  • Support security policies and procedures by recommending steps for the IT team to take, to achieve a more secure environment
  • Conduct research to keep abreast of latest security issues to anticipate incidents and reduce their likelihood
  • Have a deep understanding of information technology concepts, cloud computing methodologies (i.e., IaaS, PaaS, & SaaS)
  • Participate on project teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned


To be successful in this role, you will have:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or similar; or 4-years of equivalent experience
  • 2 - 3 years of endpoint protection experience
  • 2 - 3 years of Linux and Windows support/troubleshooting experience
  • 2 - 3 years of Identity and Access Management (IAM) experience
  • 2 - 3 years of incident response experience
  • 2 - 3 years of vulnerability management experience
  • 2 - 3 years of documentation experience
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical, organizational, and human relations skills
  • Ability to multitask and solve complex technical problems
  • Ability to operate in a self-directed manner with strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment in support of organizational goals
  • Proof of US Citizenship

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification
  • Diverse experience with IPS/IDS, SIEM, Firewalls, Vulnerability Scanners, and other information security products, control sets, frameworks, regulations, standards, and guidelines (e.g., CSC CIS controls, Mitre ATT&CK Framework, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, FedRAMP, NIST SP 800-53 and 800-171)
  • Proficiency with using scripting languages to automate tasks and manipulate data
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification
  • Azure Fundamentals/AWS Cloud Practitioner certification
  • Demonstrated experience using a SIEM
