Position Description

If you love high profile and challenging programing projects supporting the US Navy- Serco has a great opportunity for you!  Join a team of analysts, engineers, and support personnel (and sub-contractors) providing systems engineering support to the U.S. Navy Shipbuilding programs being performed. As part of that journey, we have an amazing opportunity for a Senior Naval Aviation Integration Technician based out of our Pascagoula, Mississippi location. The Serco Military Internship Program is an approved SkillBridge Program under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. The SkillBridge program is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. Serco’s SkillBridge Program is open to all ranks and experience levels. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Serco, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members.

Responsibilities for This DOD SkillBridge Position Are

Serco utilizes the DoD guidance for SkillBridge. During this program the service member will be performing an individual internship. The service member will be on the job training supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40hrs per week. Outlined below are the Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes for the program.


Goals - Provide transitioning service members fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion(s) of their military commitment. This program is specifically designed to offer internships that result in the potential to transition to a full-time opportunity as the conclusion of the training. Interns will serve as a pipeline for motivated military candidates into Serco.


Objectives - Service Members who complete the Intern program will be highly trained, capable, future employees that align to the specific needs of the organization. This program provides a comprehensive internship experience including professional development, networking with leadership, and training specifically focused on Serco leadership principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities.

Outcome - Offer transitioning service member a rewarding opportunity to join the Serco TA team.

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility

You will be part of a team that works closely with the customer and other Serco teams to provide production, testing and evaluation and programmatic support by applying technical skills to evaluate the integration of Aviation systems into the shipboard platform that would result in a successful certification by NAVAIR. Duties also include interface with military and government personnel, OEMs, and shipbuilders to manage and support installation, test, and certification in support of ship delivery.

 

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Be familiar with US Navy shipboard operations with particular emphasis on the Aviation facilities, safety gear and installed systems.
  • Provide technical reviews and engineering design recommendations to meet NAVAIR requirements for certification. 
  • Evaluate and review proposed aviation related ICPs, ECPs and SHIPALTs to determine technical and programmatic impact and recommend course of actions on shipbuilding systems engineering issues.
  • Provide support in conducting, executing, and evaluating Aviation Systems integration and test/trial activities.
  • Provide backup support to the contract’s Program Reviews, participate in trials, when necessary, provide Ship checks, meeting participation and preparing meeting minutes.
  • Provide flexible support to customer for the coordination of requirements reviews, technical reviews, and test events of Aviation Systems on New Construction ships.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A current or active Secret security clearance.
  • A High School diploma, five plus years of relevant work experience in the areas of Navy Aviation Systems and NAVAIR requirements
  • Naval service and experience onboard Aviation capable surface ships is highly desired.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and easily readable technical correspondence to document reviews of technical recommendations following technical reviews and collating of comments.
  • Articulate in oral and written presentations; possess high organizational skills and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Experience with major US Navy Shipbuilding Programs is a plus.
  • Confident action oriented, self-starter with a sense of integrity and actively contribute to building and expanding consultancy services.
  • A technical writing sample demonstrating quality of work and analytical skills may be requested.
