Position Description

Team Submarine SHAPM supports the design, development, testing, oversight, and procurement of the COLUMBIA Class submarine's Integrated Power System (electrical distribution system and electric drive) and provides engineering oversight of VA and CVN ships service turbine generator (SSTG) control systems.

 

In this role, you will work closely with:

 

  • Naval Reactors
  • PMS 397
  • The shipbuilder, and Component vendors to ensure the highest standards are maintained.  

 

This position provides technical expertise in the review of design specifications, technical issue resolution, and technical documentation of Columbia Class Turbine Generators, as well as in-service Turbine Generators for all other classes of submarines and aircraft carriers. You will interface routinely with Electric Boat and Naval Reactors in ensuring the proper design and operation of the TG and all controlling systems.  You will be on a dynamic team working for Serco’s customer in Team Submarine, onsite at the Washington Navy Yard.  Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact towards our military defense and safety of our sailors.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have a current or active Secret clearance which is REQUIRED for consideration.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Computer, Electrical or other engineering degree or related field (Physics, for example).  
  • Have a minimum of five years of experience, including three years in operations and/or design, testing, and issue resolution associated with Ship’s Service Turbine Generators and Magnetic Bearings in Naval Nuclear Propulsion systems -- REQUIRED. 
  • Have Naval Nuclear Propulsion experience at a Prototype, Nuclear shipyard, or shipboard -- highly preferred.
  • Be articulate in both oral and written formats.  
  • Have the ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite of programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Provide rigorous, responsive, technical acumen while retaining a collaborative and amiable approach.
  • 10% travel required
