By working with our experienced technical team on a variety of engineering projects, you will both discover your place at Serco this summer and have a lasting impact on our organization and our world. Serco’s summer internship program for mechanical engineering students gives students a well-rounded background in mechanical engineering. Work with a great engineering team who are always happy to answer questions and explain new concepts.  They really take the time to make sure the student understands their task and do their best to make sure the internship is successful, and the student learns how to be an engineer. During the internship, the student will learn how to work as part of a team consisting of engineers, program managers and technicians, completing tasks pertinent to the business and engineering objectives. Unlike other internships, which are set in stone and planned out, like a school curriculum, Serco offers a flexible environment to learn while contributing to the engineering team. This gives the intern a realistic view of the industry and what is expected of an engineer in a DoD environment. Serco builds and delivers "mission ready" I.T., networking, and communications systems adapted to the needs of defense, intelligence, and homeland security customers. With a strong foundation in systems engineering, we procure the material and then assemble, integrate, and perform acceptance testing for a wide range of C5ISR systems. Our production methodology allows us to optimize technology to the client's mission requirements, to eliminate downstream maintenance issues and reduce the costs of deployment and sustainment.Errors in the integration and testing of complicated networking gear can have a substantial impact on production schedules and mission readiness. With a lifecycle approach spanning design to installation and sustainment, Serco understands every critical link in the production chain. In our work for defense clients, Serco provides equipment burn-in, integration, testing, and validation to find and eliminate any compatibility or failure issues before equipment ever reaches the operational unit, reducing lost time and cost overruns. Our hardware integration services span a full range of systems and operating environments, including build-to-print specifications, supply-chain management, engineering support, mechanical fabrication, electrical fabrication, connectorization, and cable fabrication, electronic assembly, and equipment burn-in, systems testing, and acceptance. Over the course of the summer, you will network and interface with our team consisting of engineers, program managers, technicians, and support staff, completing tasks pertinent to the business and engineering objectives).  You will report to Brady Lucia and Dan Szostek. Brady, Dan, and the rest of the engineering team will mentor you through the internship with the goal of helping you ready yourself for a full-time engineering role in the industry. In this role, you will:- Learn and perform the test process of ESS (Environmental Stress Screening), including Thermal cycling and Vibration Testing- Experience in performing mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies for DoD equipment in accordance with system requirements and TDP information- Interface with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines including purchasing and program management, and suppliers, to develop design solutions, resolve technical challenges, and overcome issues- Supporting the development, evaluation, and analysis of mechanical designs for deliverable items and internal fixturing.- Design using SOLIDWORKS (for modeling and documentation creation) for internal machining on our 4 axis CNC machine- Presentation of data results, specifications, problems, & solutions to management and customers- Gain a working knowledge of the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process.#STEPEngineering
